Proverbs 24:11 11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold In settings of silver.
We watched for over a hundred days as oil gushed into the Gulf of Mexico. God heard the prayer of so many people and now the well is no longer leaking. For years and years WORDS have been spilling from our mouth. Recklessly we rush through life saying anything we like because “free speech” is our right. Well, free speech may be our right but it doesn’t mean its right to blabber, blog and twitter hateful words.
The wisdom writer said, “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.” I love that imagery…”a word fitly spoken”. Translated this means, “A word spoken at just the right time.”
Today is the right time to speak some important words.
It’s the right time to tell our spouse, our children, our grandchildren, our great grandchildren, or our great, great grandchildren, or even our great, great, great grandchildren, “LOVE YOU!” Did you know there are kids who have never been told by their dad, “I love you.” There are wives starving to hear a husband say, “I love you.” It’s like one husband told his wife on their wedding day, “I told you I love you…now I don’t have to ever have say that again.”
It’s the right time to tell someone, “YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB!” Nothing lifts up a hard working woman or man like those powerful words. It is always encouraging to know that our WORK is recognized properly.
It’s the right time to tell someone, “I AM HERE TO HELP YOU!” It may be to take an elderly church member to the doctor. It might even be a yard that need cutting. It could someone who doesn’t have enough food to get through the day. Someone may need our help today.
It’s the right time to tell someone, “THANK YOU!” I am going to pick up an item that is on hold for me at Sears. I will tell them, “Thanks”! They didn’t have to hold the product until I got to the store. I do appreciate what they did. Is there someone who needs to hear you say, “Thank you.”?
It’s the right time to tell someone, “I HAVE SINNED AGAINST GOD AND AGAINST YOU…PLEASE FORGIVE ME?” Nothing more need be said!
Listen again, “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.”
Father, I want honor YOU with our words this day…help me to rightly use them as I live today…In Jesus Name…AMEN!
