Word of the Day
THE WORD FOR TODAY
1 Samuel 28-30
1 Samuel 28-30
1 Samuel 28:6 6 And when Saul inquired of the LORD, the LORD did not answer him, either by dreams or by Urim or by the prophets.
When my kids were growing up we used to play the “quiet game”. We would just sit in the room and no one would say a word. The loser of course was the one who “spoke” first. By the way my daughter lost that game a lot.
God was silent to Saul and it wasn’t a family quiet game. A fierce army stood before Saul with total destruction in their mind. The army was so big that Saul’s heart trembled in fear. Then Saul inquired of the LORD, the Lord did not answer him. God was silent.
The silence of God here is sobering. It takes a lot for God to become so angry that he won’t listen to someone.
The silence of God here is curious. Why didn’t God simply tell Saul, “I don’t know you…I won’t help…I have ripped your kingdom from you.” Oh wait a minute He did that already but Saul wouldn’t listen.
The silence of God here is ominous. Even Saul could feel this impending DOOM in his life. The sickening knot in his stomach was tearing him up inside. What about when God is silent with us? Oh how grateful I am for grace and mercy.
The silence of God is necessary because of the silence of Saul? Look at how silent he is. He is only talking to God because he is in trouble and he knows it. When it comes to telling God he is sorry for his sin…he is silent. When it comes to telling God that he repents of his sin…he is silent. When it comes to crying in remorse before the Father…Saul is silent.
Father, please don’t punish us with YOUR silence O LORD…forgive our sin and selfishness…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
