Truth for Today
4 The roads to Zion mourn
Because no one comes to the set feasts.
All her gates are desolate;
Her priests sigh,
Her virgins are afflicted,
And she is in bitterness.
I attended the Mississippi Baptist Convention this past week. On Tuesday night the sound of hundreds and hundreds of God’s people in praise was incredible. The sound of God’s people in worship and adoration of HIM was a glorious experience.
Israel and Judah had known powerful scenes of worship. They had heard the sounds of praise. They had smelled the aroma of sacrifice. They had felt the presence of God…but no more. Now they were in exile. The sounds of praise and worship were ancient history. The road to Zion…to Jerusalem…mourned because they were empty of worshippers. The feasts were no more. The gates were desolate. This is an awful scene in the life of Israel. Not a pretty moment.
While I was driving to the Church for a meeting I passed a Church that made me take notice. It was a corner Church that looked empty. There were no cars in parking lot. It looked abandoned. It looked like no one had been there for some time. I felt sad for a moment as I wondered if there was life in that Church.
We all know roads that lead to Churches that are silent. No one has come to worship in that building in years. There is no echo of praise from the previous Sunday in the rafters of the sanctuary. There is nothing but silence……..
I pray that the echo of praise in your church will live from Sunday to Sunday. I pray that God will deliver us from the threat of empty Churches that are silent of praise to HIM. I pray that HE will come alive in your heart as you worship HIM today, tomorrow and Sunday.
Father, deliver us from mourning and help us as we PRAISE you…may the roads to our Churches celebrate with worshippers desiring to meet with YOU…In Jesus Name…AMEN!
