But By My Spirit, says the Lord by J. Smith Summer - how quickly it has flown. Here we are facing the final hurrah of summer this weekend - Labor Day. It has been another busy month at Olivet beginning with a guest speaker as Bro. Chip injured his ribs while spending time at the beach on his boat with family on August. 1. While climbing aboard via the boat ladder, a wave came a knocked him hard bruising his ribs. After a weekend off his feet to recover, he returned to work the next week and is doing well. Olivet had another A/C unit replaced this month. It was the second unit in the fellowship hall which had been out of commission for a while. It was replaced with the help of the Florida Baptist Convention Revitalization Grant. So, the new unit was installed on Aug. 8. As the A/C was now working and installed, the church enjoyed the newly cooled Fellowship Hall with hosting an ice cream social Sunday, August 11 following the morning church service with good participation an turn out. And then, the following day, Monday, Aug. 12 the children of Santa Rosa county started school for the new 2024 -2025 school year. Wednesday, Aug. 14 was the monthly business meeting, but this was started by a brief introduction to Jim Waters the Director of Missions at our Santa Rosa Baptist Association. He presented briefly about an opportunity, if the people of Olivet so wished, to participate in a "Deep Dive" ministry evaluation. The Deacons unanimously were in agreement for it as was the pastor search committee. And this past Sunday, Olivet voted as a church body to proceed with the process. This evaluation would permit the Santa Rosa Baptist Association to go over church policies and bylaws, financial reports, etc to see where there could be room for improvement. The process would take three months and then Mr. Waters would present his findings and give recommendations by which the church could receive or reject such suggestions. This is in hopes of helping Olivet be ready for the next Pastor the Lord brings our way. This month with all these and more changes happening in the church, and life I have reflected on the verse I started the year with - Zechariah 4:6b - "Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord." When I wrote about that verse in January, I would never have suspected where we would be by this August and going into September. But the Lord is directing and refining Olivet as He still has faithful people here desiring to honor Him. So be in prayer for Olivet as we start the evaluation process: for the Lord's leading and help in whatever changes may be necessary; encouragement in what ever is commendable; and the Lord to be honored in the hearts of His people as we go through this chapter at Olivet Baptist. Business @ a Glance The August 2024 business meeting had... Old Business: Nominating presented the need to remove Susan W's name from Personnel and replace it with Steven M. for the 2024-2025 year. Motion made from committee and no 2nd needed. Motion Passed. Bro. Chip Fox also brought up that in the last business meeting Benevolence being listed in budget was called into question. It was found in the minutes that it had been voted on and approved. But in this current financial situation, Olivet needs to make sure we can do it. $1000+ a month is spent on groceries. Aside from the Convention funding Olivet spends $670+ a month. Joanie had recommended finding funding elsewhere in the budget. For instance, Building and Grounds shifting $4000 to Benevolence. We still will be short but working toward the goal. No questions. New Business: None Being no other business, the meeting came to an end. Motion made to adjourn by Mike W. and 2nd by Scott R. Prayer was given by Charles G. at 7:10pm.
