Happy Planting by J. Smith Ahh, September, School is back in session, the summer heat is not quite so intense and the threat of hurricanes. But aside from these things, at Olivet the Deep Dive ministry evaluation is under way. Throughout the past month the men have met weekly for their breakfast; the ladies had their monthly gathering writing cards and visiting our home-bound members. However, as an addition to this month, a special workshop took place Sept. 23 where Mrs. Sue W. led in making witnessing bracelets. She gave credit for the idea to another lady she met while in the hospital. The bracelet incorporates various beads all signifying part of Christ's life. This lady then would give them out explaining the symbolism and in doing so - share the gospel message. Mrs. Sue W. having her own health battles and her husband, prior to the bracelet, had their own method of sharing the good news by creating little wooden crosses and leaving one with everyone who encountered them at the hospital. And so, seed planters are at work at Olivet. Come October, it will be time for Samaritan's Purse - Operation Christmas Child. It is an opportunity to fill shoe boxes for a child with also $10 included for shipping (if a check, make it out to Samaritan's Purse). This care package will then be sent to a destination across the globe to a child in need, and the gospel will be given in their language. Countless children have learned about the love of Jesus and gift of forgiveness and salvation by this program. Now is also the time to be investigating good kid-friendly tracts to give out for Oct. 31. Some good resources I've discovered are: MWTB.org and LivingWaters.com, but you may have your own source for tracts. As it is also the time for autumn gardens - the weeding and prepping the ground with fertilizer has begun in order to promote a fruitful harvest. The same is in planting seeds for Christ - weeding things out of our lives that would be a stumbling block to others and daily spending time with the Lord, so when He speaks in prompting and leading, we will recognize and hopefully act with obedience. And like the farmer in Mark 4:26-29, we plant the seed in obedience and let God accomplish the work of an abundant harvest. Happy Planting!
