2 Chronicles 8-10 (Click to read Today’s Word)
2 Chronicles 10:8 8 But he rejected the advice which the elders had given him,
and consulted the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him.
Jeff Foxworthy hosts a great game show, “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader”. I actually have an iphone version of the game. When I am a little bored I play the game. You know I have discovered that I am not smarter than a 5th grader. I learned the hard way that I don’t know everything. Life has taught me that I need good Godly counsel everyday of my life.
A young King inherited a great kingdom. Thanks to the blessings of God the kingdom was the wealthiest it had ever been. Peace and prosperity filled the land. What would this young King do with a nation that was prosperous and peaceful? His first official act was to reject, a decision he would regret, the wisdom of the elders of the land. Rehoboam, Solomon’s son, rejected the good Godly advice of the men who had the “ears of the people”. He would regret that decision to the end of his very short reign as king.
Every one needs advice at some point in our life. The wrong advice can be absolutely devastating as we make decisions that shape and change our life. The right advice is the critical difference between a good decision and a really bad decision. Seeking Godly counsel is important in making decisions...especially decisions that affect someone’s life. I thank God that over the years HE has pulled and pointed me toward people who possessed Godly counsel. Those people have never given me bum advice. They have consistently given me the GODLY Word I needed to make my decisions. For that I am grateful.
Father, always guide us to Godly people who give us the timely word for the momentary decision we need to make. Grant us discerning hearts to see and hear and know the right decisions we need to make...In Jesus Name...AMEN!!!
