THE WORD FOR TODAY
Job 31-33 (Click to read Today’s Word)
Job 31:5-6 5 “If I have walked with falsehood, Or if my foot has hastened to deceit, 6 Let me be weighed on honest scales, That God may know my integrity.”
Everyone has them…you know a pair of weight scales in their bathroom. Now just imagine the possibilities. What if your scales were equipped to link to a satellite high above the earth? Equipped in such a way that when you stepped on them all of your personal private data…your memories…your behavior for the last 48 hours…your secret thoughts…all of them and more were instantly uploaded to a server where an email detailing all of your life would be sent to all of your family and friends. Would you step on those scales to be weighed?
Job would step on those scales. He said, “If I have walked with falsehood, Or if my foot has hastened to deceit, Let me be weighed on honest scales, That God may know my integrity.”
Our family and friends don’t know our secrets. But God does. God knows every secret thought and intent of the heart. God is absolutely aware of every hair on our head. Nothing is hidden from His sight. We don’t have to step onto a high tech scale to inform God about what we have done…HE KNOWS ALREADY!
What is interesting to me is that Job was willing to step onto scales so that God would know his integrity. Job could honestly claim that he hadn’t cheated anybody or stolen anything or looked at a young woman (Job 31:1). Wouldn’t it be great to be like Job?
Some years ago every young basketball player in America said, “I want to be like Mike.” They were of course referring to Michael Jordan. I don’t hear many of us saying, “I want to be like Job.” That involves suffering. That involves character…to be like Job demands integrity.
Father, You know me like no one else and I lay myself in Your loving and gracious and merciful hands. You are God and YOU are wonderful. Help me and all who read this devotion to walk with integrity and character before You all the days of our life…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
