THE WORD FOR TODAY
Judges 20:13 13 Now therefore, deliver up the men, the perverted men who are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death and remove the evil from Israel!” But the children of Benjamin would not listen to the voice of their brethren, the children of Israel.
Richmond, CA is reeling from the news of at least 20 people involved in the gang rape of a 15 year old girl outside a California High School Homecoming dance. Police described the scene as a 2 ½ hour assault on a helpless victim. 10 people were involved with the assault while another 10 people watched without calling 911 to report the crime.
All it takes for evil in this world to persist is for good people to do nothing.
Just ask the children of Benjamin who stubbornly refused to act justly against “perverted men” who had killed a woman. When confronted with their sin the children of Benjamin would not listen to the voice of their brethren, the children of Israel. The price of that decision would be an incredible amount of bloodshed.
All it took was for one person of that group in California to call 911…just one…but they didn’t.
Good people…God’s people must act justly. We can’t be silent about crime in our world. We can vote out judges who don’t do their job. We can fire District Attorney’s who have no backbone with our vote on Election Day. We can come alongside victims of crimes and encourage them in their struggle.
Father, help us to always stand for what is right and just and help us to never bend to the whim of saying and doing nothing about the crimes that plague our society…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
