Truth for Today
Ezekiel 45:9 9 ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Enough, O princes of Israel! Remove violence and plundering, execute justice and righteousness, and stop dispossessing My people,” says the Lord GOD.
It is staggering to consider crime statistics in our nation. The most recent data indicates over 11,850,000 thousand reported criminal activities in the United States last year. That is a staggering number.
Criminal activity is nothing new to society. God used Ezekiel to remind the leaders of Israel, “Enough, O princes of Israel…remove violence and plundering, execute justice and righteousness and stop dispossessing my people.” God was fed up with their wanton support of criminal activities and its impact on His people.
As I think about it…there are probably many more million criminal activities…they just go unreported. Good people see these kinds of things everyday…but they turn a blind eye to the crimes being committed. God has called HIS people to be people of righteousness and justice. But too often we take the side of the criminal…and forget the victim.
Perhaps you know someone who is the victim of crime. What can you do for them? Have they gotten justice? Are they walking through the valley alone and afraid of when the next time they will be victimized? I was once a victim of vandalism. It took me months to get to a place where I was not afraid to park my truck alongside the street where it had been damaged.
Good people…God’s people must demand justice. We can elect judges and district attorney’s that will do their job. We can be willing to be witnesses if we see the crime take place. We can stand beside victims and show them that they are not alone. God’s people must be a people who LOVE righteousness and justice.
O Lord, may we never turn a blind eye to the injustice in the world around us. Cause to always stand for what is right and good and just…not matter the price we have to pay. I pray for those who are suffering because of a criminal act. Comfort them with YOUR presence and empower them by YOUR Spirit…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
