THE WORD FOR TODAY
Genesis 1-3 Click to Read the Scripture for Today
1 Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. 2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.
What happened to the Sabbath? When did we lose resting on the seventh day?
When I was a boy...just a couple of years ago...there was NEVER any store open on Sundays. Now...many stores treat Sunday just like any other day. And let’s admit it...we Christians have bought into it because we flock to restaurants and such every Sunday. There is often times a race between the Baptists and Methodists over who will get there first.
We have lost the significance of the Sabbath...the seventh day of rest. And its to our detriment that we have lost the passion for rest.
When God finished His work of creation He did something really special...He rested. He then set that day apart and blessed it for day of rest.
God has given us the gift of a day of rest because He knows that we need rest. Our physical bodies can’t stand the strain day after day after day of labor without a good days rest. Ask any farmer who works tirelessly gathering their crop...long hours everyday...when they can finally stop for a day of rest...OH how it feels good to them. Ask any doctor who spends long weekends in an emergency room. Ask any Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine or Coast Guardsman who spends days and weeks on defending our country often without a full day of rest for weeks...ask them how important rest is.
We need REST to Replenish...to Energize...to Sustain and to...Turn us toward God. God has given us the great model for REST...let’s find the Sabbath. Let’s return to that time of resting from our LABOR so that we can serve our God even better.
Lord, help as we return to our Sabbath rest...help us keep quiet the noise in our life and just stop and rest in YOU...In Jesus Name..AMEN!!!
BLESSINGS BROTHER WILLIAM
