Proverbs 27:1 1 Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring forth.
Tomorrow…tomorrow…tomorrow…tomorrow….so many of our worries and anxieties surround tomorrow. Our plans and projects surround tomorrow. We often put off what we ought to do today by saying, “I can do this tomorrow.”
Proverbs tells us, “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do know what a day may bring forth.”
How many of my plans for tomorrow have been shredded in the path of life.
Tomorrow isn’t promised to us. We are but a heart beat away from eternity while tomorrow is at this moment at least 12 hours away. A lot can happen in 12 hours. One phone call can change our plans forever.
Tomorrow isn’t dependable. I have read the end of the Book and I know that at any time Jesus could come again. In this life tomorrow is not nearly as dependable as the fact that Jesus is coming to take HIS church home with Him someday.
Tomorrow can be deceptively disappointing. That is why the wisdom writer says, “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.”
So what can I do? I need to make plans? I need to hope for tomorrow? What do I do? I am glad you asked that question.
James 4:13-15 challenges us, “13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; 14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. 15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.” I make my plans and live my life under the umbrella of HIS WILL for my life. If HE wills then we will do this and that.
Father, I want to live in Your will and Your way for my life…help me not to boast about tomorrow but have all of my tomorrows directed by You my Master and my Lord…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
