Truth for Today
Hosea 4:1-2 1 Hear the word of the LORD, You children of Israel, For the LORD brings a charge against the inhabitants of the land: “ There is no truth or mercy Or knowledge of God in the land. 2 By swearing and lying, Killing and stealing and committing adultery, They break all restraint, With bloodshed upon bloodshed.
God loves truth and mercy. It makes sense then that He also hates falsehood and harshness. Just read Hosea 4:1-2. It is a powerful reminder of God’s love for truth and mercy.
There is no truth or mercy or knowledge of God in the land. That is the charge levied against His people. It is harsh. It is real. It is staggering to think that His own people would be in a place where mercy and truth didn’t reign in their hearts. That sin was made clear when He said, “By swearing and lying, killing and stealing and committing adultery, they break all restraint, with bloodshed upon bloodshed.”
Not a pretty picture!
Is truth and mercy running around the streets of the towns and cities of America? Would we be found guilty of swearing, lying, killing, stealing and committing adultery? Are we living lives of restraint?
These are important questions because the evidence that truth and mercy is lacking on the American landscape may be mounting. I just saw the other night where two police officers were arrested for major felonies. The very people sworn to uphold the law used the law for a tool to commit crime. That is just one example.
But here is the truth we can live by. Truth and mercy can run free in our life. We don’t have to embrace falsehood and unfaithfulness. May we not be found guilty of lives without HIS truth and mercy present in our life.
Father, help us to honor YOU in all that we do and all that we say…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
