Truth for Today
Joel 1:12 The vine has dried up, and the fig tree has withered; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also and the apple tree all the trees of the field are withered; surely joy has withered away from the sons of men.
In the Mississippi Delta right now the fields are being prepared as they get ready to plant next year’s crops. Every farmer there has an expectation of what we they call a “bumper crop”. I have seen the fields that you could tell were going to really bring in the best harvest. I have seen others that were stunted and covered with weeds and infested with insects…you know what kind of harvest comes from an infested crop…nothing.
Joel spent some time talking about three kinds of locusts…chewing locust, swarming locust and the crawling locust. The locust’ sole job is to eat the plant and leave nothing behind. God is saying that nothing would be left…then He tells the people in verse 12, “The vine has dried up, and the fig tree has withered; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also and the apple tree all the trees of the field are withered; surely joy has withered away from the sons of men.”
There is no doubt the joy is withering away from folks today. It’s evident! There is a serious lack of contentment…in relationships, in jobs, in homes and even in the sense of peace in hearts.
Surely joy has withered away from the sons of men…these words should draw us to the source of joy. King David said it best in Psalm 51, “Restore unto the joy of your salvation!” These repentant words of need may be what we need to lay before the Father…even NOW!
Send your Joy O Lord into our heart and lift us up to walk in newness with you...IN JESUS NAME…AMEN!!!
