THE WORD FOR TODAY
Psalm 106-108 (Click to read Today’s Word)
Psalm 106:13-15 13 They soon forgot His works; They did not wait for His counsel, 14 But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, And tested God in the desert. 15 And He gave them their request, But sent leanness into their soul.
Grand Juries meet all over this country to hear evidence on a variety of crimes. If the evidence is strong enough these Grand Juries pass down an indictment. The “indictment” says there is enough evidence to send the alleged perpetrator of a crime to stand trial for their crime.
We don’t need a Grand Jury to determine Israel’s rebellion against God.
The Psalmist says of Israel, “They soon forgot His works; They did not wait for His counsel, But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, And tested God in the desert. And He gave them their request, But sent leanness into their soul.” The price of their “forgetting HIS works was leanness into their soul”.
I don’t like the sound of those words, “leanness into their soul”. To me it means that the dynamic relationship the people could have had with God was not. They were missing out on the fullness and depth of the single greatest relationship in life. Ignoring God’s good work in their life carried a price tag that was way too high.
I don’t want “leanness of soul”. I don’t want you to have “leanness of soul”. God doesn’t want you and I to have leanness of soul. I believe His desire for a deeper relationship with HIS people is one of the reasons HE has burdened my heart with these devotions. I write these words 5 days a week because I believe God wants to meet with every single one of you. He doesn’t want us to have leanness of soul because we “forgot His works”.
May the God Who loves us and redeems us fill our soul with HIS very best!
Father, fill us with Yourself…may we not forget Your works…Your work of salvation is our strength in life…Your presence is the breath we breath…Your power is our constant and abiding hope…In Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
