THE WORD FOR TODAY
1 Kings 19-21
1 Kings 19-21
1 Kings 19:11 11 Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake; 12and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.
Mandisa, a tremendous Christian artist writes a song, “God Speaking”: Have you ever heard a love song that set your spirit free, have you ever watched a sunrise and felt you could not breathe…what if it’s Him…what if it’s God speaking…
Elijah desperately needed to hear from God. He was instructed to stand on the mountain before the LORD. The wind swept by…the Lord wasn’t in the wind. An earthquake and fire later…the Lord wasn’t there. And after the wind, earthquake and fire…a still small voice that spoke to Elijah everything he needed to hear.
God often goes against our expectations of Him. We would expect to hear Him through the wind, earthquake and fire. But that wasn’t what Elijah needed. Elijah had enough drama. His hands were full with Jezebel. He needed the quiet assurance that can only come from a MIGHTY God.
I wonder…do we get quiet enough to hear HIS still small voice? Do we stay so busy that we can’t even possibly hear HIS BOOMING voice? Or are we so distracted that we even miss those blessed opportunities for God to speak?
I am guilty! And I want to so desperately to hear Him like I did this morning. As I got ready to roll out of bed the Lord laid a prayer on my heart: FACE…
F – Lord I Face the day with faith in YOU.
A – Lord I Adore You for the day YOU have given me.
C – Lord I Commit to proclaim YOU before my world this day.
E – Lord I Eagerly Expect You to great things through me today.
So I got up and I am facing the day with Jesus my Lord speaking to me. I pray that I don’t miss HIS voice through the day.
Lord, YOU speak…we must listen…may our ears be tuned to YOUR voice this day…in Jesus Name…AMEN!!!
