THE WORD FOR TODAY
BibleGateway.com - Passage Lookup: Exodus 4-6
1 Then Moses answered and said, “But suppose they will not believe me or listen to my voice; suppose they say, ‘The LORD has not appeared to you.’”
Have you ever heard an unbelievable story? It was so incredulous that it couldn’t be true…yet it was.
Moses was receiving God’s call to deliver the people from Egypt. His first concern, some say excuse, was whether the people would believe him or not. In fact he said, “Suppose they say, ‘The LORD has not appeared to you.’”
In midst of oppression…tribulation…problems why wouldn’t people listen to “words of real hope”?
Perhaps people wouldn’t listen because of fear…what is going to happen to us when we try to leave Egypt. Maybe people wouldn’t listen because they didn’t trust the messenger…MOSES. After all they could feel just a little bit cynical about a runaway who returns home to deliver them. They could even feel that God had abandoned them and left them in this ‘misery’…so they would take some convincing.
God was concerned with the suffering of the people…He had not abandoned them…they could trust Moses the messenger, the deliverer and HE would give Moses every tool necessary to convince the people.
I am concerned that some people “DON”T” listen to and respond to the redemptive message of God’s Word. I fear that those who are to share God’s message of hope will give up sharing the Gospel. I pray that we will not bend to the sin of silence and that we will fearlessly share HIS Word no matter the opposition. We must be faithful to the mandate to take the Gospel that frees us from sin to all of the world…even right within our small world of relationships.
Lord, give us courage and strength to share Jesus’ message of hope with lost and hurting people. Fill us with Your wisdom so that we can be faithful…In Jesus Name...AMEN!!!
