Truth for Today
Zechariah 4:10 For who has despised the day of small things? For these seven rejoice to see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel, they are the eyes of the Lord, which scan to and fro throughout the whole earth.
A couple of years ago I had the privilege of participating in the dedicating the new sanctuary for Wallace Baptist Church in Pace, FL. I understand that from groundbreaking until completion it took two years to complete that building. It involved over 65 meetings dealing with big major stuff all the way to little minor things. I know there were days of discouragement for everyone involved. It was awesome to see that sanctuary dedicated for serving and worshiping God.
God’s people were rebuilding Jerusalem. The foundation of the temple had been laid. Not much had progressed on rebuilding the temple and even rebuilding Jerusalem for that matter. God gave Zechariah a vision that showed that the temple would be completed and the God would be faithful in His watch over the people of God. The plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel was a symbol of what would happen as they began to rebuild the temple. It would be built true to the specs and be straight. That symbol would cause great rejoicing.
There is a tremendous lesson for us, “He who began a good work in our life…will complete that work.” This is a promise from Philippians 1:6. God is faithful in His work in our life…changing and transforming us and making us into a vessel of honor for His glory. We need His plumb line, the plumb line of God’s Word to help us walk straight and enable us to keep our eyes fixed on Him.
Let’s not despise the small things…let’s realize that He is building our life into an instrument for His glory…one small thing at a time. Let Him do His good work.
Father, we submit to your moment by moment work in our life. Shape us into servants that will bring honor and glory unto your name. Strengthen us when we are weak. Lift us up when we want to lay down and help us to always be faithful to you...IN JESUS NAME…AMEN!!!
